Angel Garden

These rocks were laid in the shape of the letter C on top of the flat ground and then I made soil by layering green material (grass clippings) and brown material (leaves and peatmoss) and repeating the 3 inch layers until I had a giant green and brown "lasagne." Instead of cheese, I capped off the layers with bark mulch and let all rot over the winter. In the spring I planted pink and lavender and heavenly blue flowers amidst the angels. For more details on dirt lasagne and making your own soil, see my book "Easy Answers for Great Gardens."

View of the Angel Garden

Close up of Angel Garden focal point. The angel is sitting on an upside down birdbath base. The top of the birdbath broke, but everything gets recycled. This sits in the middle of the gravel circle which forms the courtyard in the center of the letter "C." A wooden bench is stained sky blue - easier than growing lots of blue flowers. A square made out of bricks for a border frame the angel on the pedestal and white alyssum and blue salvia bloom here
