TIPS OF THE MONTH
July To-Do List:
July means mid-summer maintenance; which will keep your garden productive until fall.
Watering is crucial, but learn to feel the soil before you water - especially plants in
pots. Poke your finger into the soil down to the first knuckle. Don't water if the soil feels moist.
Overwatering causes more container plant deaths than anything else.
July is also when you need to harvest vegetables to keep them producing. Beans and
peas should be picked as soon as they are a few inches long because the more you pick the more you get.
Cut back salad greens to within a few inches of the ground and you'll encourage a second sprout of growth.
Perennial plants that are done blooming can also be cut to with-in six inches from
the ground and often they will re-sprout as well.
