The Discovery Tour of the Mediterranean - 2006

             

Here are the photos of our latest travel adventure. We took a group of around 20 friendly gardeners and family members to Rome, a 10-day European Cruise and a few days in Southern Italy and the Puglia region. We are planning a return trip to the Milan area and the Lakes District of Northern Italy in September 2007. Conference room: during our 2 "days at sea" we studied landscape design - by sharing photos and ideas for our own gardens.


   
  We were amazed at the Gaudi Cathedral in Barcelona, Spain; one of our group shore excursions.

  The Ruins of Pompeii - seeing this site was a life time goal for many of our fellow travelers (and that includes Joe and I.)

  The ceiling at the palace in Caserta. This was part of the side trip we enjoyed after the cruise. This site is not visited by many American tourists but rivals Versailles for spectacular gardens and beauty.
       
  Meeting the Italian cousins. We returned to our roots in the tiny town of Loseto, home of the Binetti family.
       
  Celebrating is an everyday occasion when you travel. This is the town square of Loseto where we met the Binetti cousins.  
       
  Papa Binetti on his 80th birthday - We stayed in a Medieval Manor House across from a beautiful church and had the most amazing rooms - with balconies, towers and very thick walls.  
       
  Our final day - some of the real movers and shakers hiked to the “Castel del Monte” castle while the rest of us stayed with the bus and ate ice cream.
